Great Wolf Lodge was awesome! I had a lot of fun so I can only imagine how great it was for Matthew! So it’s a lodge in the middle of nowhere really. It’s about an hour and a half south of Seattle and an hour an a half before Portland. Right when you walk in, there’s the check in counter and then straight ahead is a giant fireplace/cozy rest/lounge area. They have multiple story times there which we took part right before bed time. There’s a buffet restaurant, a regular restaurant that’s attached to the bar and then a pizza place upstairs. The food definitely was not great, but because all the reviews I read stated that, I had really, really low expectations which made the food not so bad after all! We did walk out of the lodge one night, across the parking lot to a burger place which really was the same as if we stayed inside the lodge. Right away, we bought Matthew a magic wand. It’s a game that the kids can do in addition to everything else they have. For the younger kiddies like Matthew, you just go around with your wand to open treasure boxes or lights things up. For the older ones, it’s like a scavenger hunt with clues.
The room we chose had a separate bunk bed area for Matthew. For the first time away, he got to sleep on a real bed instead of the fold out bed we bring. The room itself wasn’t so nice especially for the amount of money you pay for it. Luckily for us, we traveled with a promo code of 50% off plus to our surprise we got $100 room credit. Our room was called Wolf Den.
The water park was quite cool. It has about 6 areas: the wave pool where Matthew spent most of his time, a deeper pool for basketball, another one which I’m not sure what it was for, a larger slide area for bigger people, another area with smaller slides, and then a baby/kid pool with slides and ride on toys. Besides the water park, there’s an arcade, an ice cream/dessert place, a kiddie spa, an adult spa, mini golf, arcade, and gift shops. There’s about four floors to this place.
Everything cost money but the water park. That’s included with the room. However, if you don’t have a wristband, then I think you need to pay. So when you check in, they give you wristbands for everyone in your room. Everyone over two has to have this wristband on and it also gives you access to the room so it doubles up as a room key card. You can charge things to your room if they beep your wristband as well. NOTE to self: don’t tighten the band so you can take it off at night!
Great Wolf will definitely be a place I want to go back to. And next time we will stay at least three nights! (We planned our drives around the kiddies naps. Luckily for us Lia napped almost every time we were in the car and Matthew napped on cue. Both of them were super good.)
So after we came home, we rested at home for a few days and then it was off to Whistler for a couple of days. We were meeting up with Christine, Fred, Tiffany, and Justin along with the Cheung’s. They were already up there on the Monday and we were due to arrive on Tuesday. James had to go for training for work so we had to postpone the trip. The drive up was great. Lia slept all the way up and all the way down while Matthew stayed awake going up and then slept all the way coming down.
Right when we pulled up to the Four Season’s, I was overwhelmed with the service! I didn’t want to leave! From valet, to check in, to getting into our suite was just amazing. Our suite was approximately 600 sq ft. It had two washrooms, living room and a bedroom. It had a giant closet where Matthew called home for the duration of our stay. I felt like a queen while I stayed here! I never wanted to leave!
We had dinner in the hotel at the restaurant called Side Cut. There was a porterhouse plate of 52oz meat! Yum! I shared with Fred and James. We cleaned house pretty well. Our bill for 14 people was around $900. Each night we stayed, we were credited with $200 that could be put towards anything but gratuity and drinks so we used it for this meal plus I got two massages and then we had breakfast at Side Cut the day before we left.
The next night we ate at Rim Rock which again was super delicious and the damage was around the same. Yikes!
We took Matthew tubing and to our surprise he liked it! He liked it so much that we took him up the morning before we left!
